This is an absolutely fabulous,fully hallmarked, silver and enamelled 1898 engine turned, vesta case depicting a cricketer by Cornelius Saunders & Francis Shepherd. It's a truely stunning piece ofSaunders & Shepherdworkmanship, fully hallmarked .... 'Saunders & Shepherd' with star in between their initials, Birmingham,and the date letterY for 1898 ....quite rare!!!!!
Considering thisenamelled vesta caseis115 yearsold it's in fantastic original condition, with no splits, justsome very light wear from cleaning over the years,commensurate with it's age. This is as good as it gets with regards toSaunders & Shepherd,it's all original and undamaged, how manyof these have you seen, still intact.
I've only got one, once it's gone .... it's gone. You might never findanother one this good, and if there's one thing I've learned about antiques, when items are of quality and extremelyrare he who hesitates usually loses out.

Saunders and Shepherd ....
Founded in London by Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders and James Francis Hollings Shepherd. The firm first specialised in mounted mourning jewellery, using Whitby Jet. The company experienced much success, setting up offices in India, Canada and Australia.
The firm moved to Bartlett’s building, near Fetter Lane in Holborn, London, where they stayed until 1902. In 1889 Saunders and Shepherd invented the self-closing bracelet, and patent the one-piece collar stud. In 1905, Saunders & Shepherd expanded their officesto encompass “modern machinery driven by electric motors. The company were keeping up with modern technologies. A branch opened in Glasgow andon Vyse Street,in the Jewellery QuarterBirmingham. The company exhibited at ‘The Festival of Britain’ in London. Saunders and Shepherd becameBritish agents for Corum, the Swiss watch-makers. The company was commissioned to produce the gold watch which was presented to HRH The Queen. Saunders and Shepherd were also commissioned to make the Princess of Wales Diana Spencer’s 20th birthday present, a gold bracelet, which she wore on her wedding day. Saunders and Shepherd have just celebrated their 125th anniversary of the firm at Goldsmith’s Hall, London.
