14 Room
Butlers or Servant
Bell Box.
This wonderful bell box, made by "T. Swift, Selby" is in "as found" condition and has not been repaired or restored by us.
There are no cracks or chips to the glass. This bell box, a little more unusual than most, it has a separate duck egg blue, painted metal sheet, behind the glass with the room names with decoration painted onto it. This has some small areas of re-touching and tiny spots of paint loss, as well as the usual blemishes and marks that you would expect from the years of use. However, the fabulous red and black lettering is still clear and legible, as is the detailing and decoration around and above the windows.
The "Flags" are all present and all work as they should with the red star appearing in the window, they have a great faded look.
The jointed wooden case is solid with no signs of woodworm and this has gained a lovely patina and depth of colour over the years, however, at some point in its' life the internal board has been replaced and the bottom and top rail of the case now protrude slightly over the side rails. There has also been a piece of side rail cut out to accommodate wiring, none of this effects the strength or integrity of the case and it is still very sturdy; personally I love these signs of having "lived a life" and it shows what a valuable and cherished item this must have been.
It has fourteen windows, they are;
- Front Door.
- Tradesmens Entce.
- Dining Rm.
- Drawing Rm.
- Study.
- Bath Rm.
- Lavatory
- Bedrooms 1, 2, 3.
- Bedrooms 4, 5, 6.
It comes in all its' lived in glory, and is a delightful piece of social history that would look great on the wall in your hallway or any other room for that matter.
It measures 47 cm (18 1/2 inches) long, 37 cm (14 1/2 inches) wide and is 8 cm (3 inches) deep.
