Father's Day By Oliver Hailey Broadway Script Dramatists Play Service Acting Ed.

Father's Day
by Oliver Hailey This is a vintage acting edition script of a comedic Broadway stage play. This was published in the USA by Dramatists Play Service. There is no printing date listed. There are only copyright dates of 1971 and 1981 (revised). This softcover edition includes the script, the prop plot, a drawing of the scene design, and a photograph of the Broadway set.

Father's Day by Oliver Hailey is set in a Manhattan apartment in 1971. It is performed by three men and three women.

Father's Day opened on Broadway in 1971 starring Ken Kercheval, Biff McGuire, Donald Moffat, Jennifer Salt, Marian Seldes, and Brenda Vaccaro. There was also a 1979 Off-Broadway production with a cast that included John Cunningham, Tammy Grimes, and Mary Beth Hurt. Below is the official Dramatists Play Service description: Selected by Time magazine as one of ten best plays of the year. A widely noted and acclaimed Broadway presentation, this searing, brittle and explosively funny comedy bars no holds in delving into the disturbed lives of three divorcees whose ex-husbands return for a Father's Day visit.

"Here is an evening in the theatre suffused with stinging, gut-aching laughter."
_____ - Time Magazine

"Absorbing, intelligent and steadily entertaining."
_____ - NY Post

"Real power and not a little pathos..."
_____ - Cue Magazine

THE STORY:
Left with their alimony, their children, and neighboring apartments on New York's posh Upper East Side, three divorcees share their loneliness, their often hilarious thoughts on sex and marriage, and their bitter memories of lost trust and closeness. When their ex-husbands arrive for a Father's Day reunion they are all, at first, as civilized and sophisticated as the situation demands - but then the veneer begins to crack, and beneath the fusillade of funny lines their aching emptiness and hurt show through. In the end they face the truth about themselves and the rejection that they must accept, as the biting humor of the play gives way to a moment of touching, revealing, yet quietly shattering resignation. CONDITION:

COVER - There is mild tanning around the edges. There is a small (less than ¼") tear at the top of the front cover - above the "A" in "FATHER'S." There is a retail sticker on the back cover.

SPINE - The spine is tight. Every page is secure.

PAGES - The pages are tanning around the edges. They are otherwise clean. The paper is flat with rounded corners.

This script does not appear to have been used for an actual staging. It is in very sturdy condition. This will easily hold up to many more readings and/or stagings.
