New Handmade African Asante Fertility Doll Sculpture
approximately 4 x 2 x 17 inches with woven section about 4 inches on all sides

This pretty figure is an Ashanti (also spelled Asante) fertility doll, used to bring a woman who owns one a beautiful child. The woman will often carry and care for the doll as if it is a real child. Upon the realization of her dream, the birth of a child, the doll is placed in a revered position in the family shrine. We can't promise you children, but this piece is itself a lovely addition to an African collection or a tribal themed decor. It has been hand carved by an Ashanti sculptor out of Sesse wood, and then adorned with a woven crown which also serves as a fan. The name "Akua Ba" literally means "Wednesday born baby girl." It denotes youth and fertility.
Please be sure to visit our shop to see our entire collection of African art and decor, batiks, baskets, telephone wire art, and fabrics!
Please note that this piece is handmade in natural materials using simple tools. Therefore, it will bear the marks of its creator as well as any flaws innate within the wood. We feel this adds to its character and value! Measurements are approximate, and averages of these types of sculptures. Pictures are also representative of the basic theme only, as each sculpture and woven section is unique.
