TP-6N Tactical Field Telephone
Norwegian (NATO) built Used by the Dutch ArmyPlease Note: Phones are sold Individually
Light Weight: 3 pounds 7 ounces with batteries - far lighter than older hand-crank telephones
Small Size: TP-6N inside its canvas carrying case is only 10" x 7" x 2"
Uses
standard 2-strand wire such as WD-1A/TT "commo wire" or any other dual
strand individually insulated wire (speaker wire works well)
Nearly 22 mile talking range on good quality dry wire
Battery
(3x "D" cells) life is very long - over a month of normal usage - but
be sure not to store the phone with batteries installed. Operates
as a sound-powered phone without batteries: talk loudly into the
earpiece
The
TP-8N is essentially EMP-proof, due to the lack of any microchips or
other circuitry that is susceptable to damage; the board is all "solid
state" transistors, capacitors, resistors, etc.
Incoming calls are announced by an electronic ringer and flashing red LED
These phones are Danish Army surplus - the canvas totes may be mildly dirty,
lightly worn, or have markings from the commo shop on them. Phones may
have very minor paint chips or electrical tape on cords. All are in
good working condition
The TP-6N phones were built with a typically European
approach to wired communications security that called for "Push to
Communicate." This means the handset's "Push to Talk" button is
actually a "Push to Talk / Hear" button. The intent was to stop the earpiece from acting as a passive microphone... as a result the "PTT" switch must be depressed
during your conversation, so that you can both hear and speak to the far side receiver.
