A
16thCentury Estoc or Tuck, this is also known as a dueling rapier.
Handle
is composed of a grip made from fish skin and has which has four metal bars
running vertical meeting the ferrule. The pommel is pear shaped with eight
double groves running vertical. The guard and quillons have some movement but
nothing major sword is solid.
The
quillons are expanding with a side and diagonal side ring. The iron of the hilt
and handle would have been blued or blackened but over the many years it has
faded.
The
blade is a triangular thrusting blade which is hollow ground would have been
perfect for dueling.
The sword is in excellent condition and is a very rare
prized piece. It is priced to sell and can fetch anywhere from £6000 upwards
