Fine Antique 1800's Chinese Beautifully Carved Oxbone Bird & Peach Ornament ~ NR
Offered for sale is this superb fine antique, Chinese, beautifully carved ox bone ornament. The ox bone has been carved in the form of a bird, sitting on a branch with two chicks and two peach motifs. The ox bone has been stained/hand painted. Very unusual and a good size. I am not a Chinese antique specialist, but acquired this item with a group of antique jewellery, all dating to the 1800's and one piece earlier, not certain of its purpose or if it is an ornament. Measures 7 & 1/2 inches by 3 inches approx.
Condition; The condition is reasonably good. There are areas of wear and some old repairs. One of the peaches is detached. There are marks and holes where possibly the peaches have been remounted. The bird is in good order apart from the odd tiny nic to the tips of the wings at the back. Carved oxbone twig stand has some holes to the underside possibly where it was mounted to a stand. Minor age related wear/discolouration. Please see photos.
