Fine Antique Austrian Sterling Silver Lidded Bowl - Tea Caddy? - Estrog? For Sale
An excellent example of (rare) Austrian restraint. A simple and well balanced melon type design. The finial, lid and body share continuous lines. Augmented by bun feet. The lid is securely (no wobble) fastened almost seamlessly to the bowl. No repairs, dents, scratches or evidence of wear. Minor tarnish allows visualization. It is 5 1/4" (13cm) tall and 5 3/4 (14 1/2cm) in diameter - perfectly proportioned ! Hallmarked with Austrian Diana (1872-1922) in center. The left mark is smudged, but may be a dogs-head. A capital "P" is also included as the city mark for Pest. Total weight is 10.535 ozt., .800 silver. Though the hallmarks indicate a wide time range, I believe it is of the earlier date.
