An elegant French antique Louis XVI vanity box with heavy crystal lid adorned with a 19th century Wegwood medallion, gracefully curved sides for the bowl.Fine ormolu mount in Louis XVI style with trophies (handles of the lid), garlands, floral, fruits and vegetal ornaments for the body mounts.\"The Prayer\" Wedgwood medallion is signed on an irregular line on the back. The parian plaque has probably been reglued with some little bubbles downside in the past years. It shows a nymph praying, probably for love (the flame on the column).The beveled crystal of the lid is thick (8 mm) and heavy. It has some chips on the back. Some earlier owner probably tried to remove roughly the crystal plaque. As the chips are on the rim, they are mainly hidden by the mount from outside (please check picture).Gilding well preserved. Closing good but must be done carefully.A 4 mm chip on the rim of the bowl (not very obvious and hidden as the box is closed), some tiny chips. The bottom of the curved bowl has some scratches outside (see last two pictures).A second Empire (until 1870) elegant box with its end of the nineteenth century beautiful Wedgwood parian plaque.
