Fine Georgian Dollond Of London Monocular - Telescope - Spyglass, Circa 1800:
This is a stunning late 18th / early 19th century Georgian monocular or spyglass by the renowned optical firm Dollond of London. The body of the monocular appears to be in black lacquer with fine quality gilt metalmounts which has the engraved decoration of the period. The mounts I am assuming are pinchbeck, however they have not been tested. The tube in which the name "Dollond London" is engraved is also pinchbeck or copper gilt. The stained horn eye piece can unscrew for a change of lens?
The monocular is optically sound and is in crisp overall condition and measures approx. 70mm closed, 49mm in diameter across lens and extends to 95mm.
I am however not an expert on these items, but if you have any questions I will do my best to answer.
