$495.00

Hand crafted by a master silversmith, and made of the finest quality in the style of the 17th Century,
we are saleing today
a Vintage ornate Spanish TASTEVIN Wine taster made in Madrid Spain -
fully HALLMARK for 915/1000 or higher standard STERLING SILVER This Winetaster ismanufactured in Spain between 1934 and 1985. Pentagram is national standardhallmark for a minimum of solid silver of 915/1000 fineness. Letters M & G inthis cartouche is the mark of silversmith Manuel Garrido, from Madrid, Spain. In the 1950’s and 1960’s ofthe twentieth century, it was very popular to own silver items with embeddedcoins. If you had an old coin inherited from grandparents you would take it tothe silversmith and have them manufacture it into an ashtray, a little plate, ora tastevin like this, or any object thatyou requested. It became so popular, thatGarrido began Manufacturing a few of these coins to use them for special crafted pieces made in the style of 17th and 18th Century. They are very limited and scarce to find.

This coinappears that in this Winetaster, we are uncertain to whether it is original or manufactured (because he did also use original coins as well) in the image of a 1630 Philip IVSpanish 8 Reales Coin by this silversmith. If so, it is very difficult to tellas he did an excellent job in cloning his manufactured coin from the originalcoin. The rims on the coin in this Tastevin appear as small indentedcircles instead of lines typically found on the coin , and for that reason, we are uncertain, as it appears that if this was an original, the silver coin itself was heavily replated again in pure silver (which hides the original details somewhat of the coin), and the circles could simply be from the tool punch used to set the coin in the center during it\'s making

(this of course would be a major mistake on our part if this is original because this coin itself would be valued at $4000 and letting the Tastvin go at a fraction of it\'s numismatic value - and our ignorance would certainly be your gain).

An example of the original coin is shown asone of the photos so you may compare for yourself.

If it does wind up being manufactured, some might say it may bemore desirable to have an original coin (seeing the numismatic value of this coin is$4000+ USD), however, by having this coin manufactured by the same silversmithof pure sterling silver, it makes this wine taster 100% Crafted by the originalSilversmith, which by itself, is a positive factor in collecting silver in ouropinion, and this is one of the finest Tastevin’s we have seen in themarketplace. It weighs 2.4 OZ. on postal scale (see photo). And crafted in thefinest quality we have seen by silversmiths in Government Assayed Pure Sterling Silver (includingthe coin) in the same quality we would exhibit from Masters or craftsmen, like those ofColonial Williamsburg making crafts from the 17th Century.

Our latest conclusion, is that we are completely and honestly uncertain to whether this coin itself, is manufactured or an original upon it\'s latest evaluation
