Fine Mid To Late 18th C. German Hungarian Or French Naval Navy Officer's Sword For Sale
Lovely quality naval officer's saber from around mid to late 1700s, of German manufacture but likely to be for Hungarian or French market, wearing a lightly curved large fullered blade well marked to a Solingen maker on the lower spine, both sides with fine quality etched decorations including a fabulous horseback Hussar and "Vivat Hussar" inside the ribbon, the blade shows very nice rich patina throughout with areas of very fine pitting. Beautiful iron mounted hilt with absolutely awesome pierced work to the guard resembling the fish or serpent scales, the top of the backstrap adorned with a lovely silver anchor, delicately carved grip is completely solid with few natural chips near the pommel. All solid and completely intact, the sword is in lovely condition for its extensive age. overall 34 1/2" blade 29".
