Comes with a signed certificate and historical story about the engine

One of a set of four plates issued by the National Railway Museum to commemorate four British Express Trains of the 1930\'s.
These plate are of fine bone china and made by Spode.

9 1/4\" in diameter
Distributed only by Mulberry Hall, York in 1990

To frame the central picture there is a border design in 22 carat gold on a ground rich cobalt blue.
The gold tracery in the design depicts the best of the decorative paintwork which graced railway engines and carriages in the heyday of steam travel.
At the top is the insignia of the company, the panels around the sides enclose monograms of the company\'s four principal constituent railways in the 1923 amalgamation.

In excellent condition. No chips, cracks, loss of gilding or colors.
In original red presentation box with Spode logo in gold and with certificate of authenticity which bears the signature of the Keeper of the National Railway Museum.

A spendid plate of exceptional quality and a beautiful reminder of the age of steam.
A must for any railway enthusiast or collector and a great addition to any collection of railroadiana or as a gift.

In Norman Elford\'s portrayal it is shown passing Durham on the 393 mile non-stop run from Edinburgh to King\'s Cross, hauled by the locomotive of the same name, No. 4472, an A3 class 4-6-2.

This plate is one of a series of four depicting British Express trains of the 1930s, It has been created by order of the National Railway Museum in a limited edition of 2500 of which this is number 1093.
