Found in Quebec,\" la Belle Province\", this French hallmarked chalice is comprised of a silver hallmarked stem and base ( comb helmeted figure and maker mark consisting of the letters L and G within a diamond shaped lozenge letters separated by a star),.Constructed with a screw threaded removable brass font and decorative trefoil collar and a brass base plate held in place by a brass domed screw. The font and trefoil collar are made of gold chased brass that fits securely when screwed in place. There is also a finely cut brass plate held in place by a polished dome topped screw fitted to the base, engraved to memory of Thomas and Elizabeth Callaghan . There are a few numbers and letters scratched on the base plate by hand cursive. There was a small quantity of verdigris between the trefoil collar and the font leading to my naming non silver components as brass composition.Photographs taken on a Postal scale show in three pictures i) weight of entire chaliceii) weight of brass pieces iii) 220 gm weight of silver stem alone-pictured on its side with all base metal components dis assembled and set aside.Thanks for taking the time to look at this silver and mixed metals French chalice. It is interesting to see the ease of interchangeability integral to this items design, leading to speculation that different fonts and dedicated base plates were used for individual or family specific masses. Standing 10 \", and 6.25\" wide at the base with a 4\" font, this item presents very well and the patina of this chalice absolutely glows- I guarantee the authenticity of this piece.
