On personal letterhead to Mr. H. G. Jacobs. In full: "My autograph, Is that a laugh/Comes echoing down the aisles of Time/As Youth and Age, in turning page/Have happened upon this bit of rhyme./'What pains they had, those oldsters sad' -/Says youth, 'these names to search and find!/But tell me true, pray tell me who/the dickens was this/Francis Lynde?" Novelist and short story writer Francis Lynde (1856-1930) wrote such popular novels as The Taming of Red Butte and The Grafters.
