French 1880 18k Gold Sewing Set, With Scissors, Thimble, Needle Case, Etc. For Sale
Invery good condition.
Case and thimble engraved with MA.
This luxurious sewing set was hand crafted in Paris (France)in the last third of the XIXth century. It is extremly fine and invery goodcondition with nothing missing, rusted, bent, but there is a soldering tothe scissors, at a handle.
It comprisesfive tools thatare skillfullyengraved andmade of 18 k gold (with steel for the scissors and the awl). They allbear at last one eagle head hallmark. There is also the goldsmith losange hallmark thesampler needle. The scissors cut very well. The thlmble has no dent, or hole,only discreet scratches.
The caseis carved outof anoble natural material (not plastic). It could have beenhand craftedat Dieppe. It is heavy, smooth and in good condition. At one extremity there is a small inlaid patch of materail, hold in place by two miniature dowels. Nice and originalwork, due to the shape of the tooth.The boxopens and closes g (gold)
