French 1880 Gilded Silver Sewing Set With An Exceptional Inlaid Rosewood Case.:
In excellent original condition.
This superb andoutstanding sewing set was hand crafted in Paris (France) at theend of the XIXth century.
The case is oval and rounded: a chef d'oeuvre. It's made of rosewood veneer, with a cover beautifully inlaid. The pattern shows rosewood cubes separated by pieces of a noble material (not plastic). I found that 348 pieces were used to make the cover. None of them is missing, even in the edges. This case is in perfect condition, smooth, with no detachment. It closes at it should. Inside the case is lined with silk and velvet (no tear or sign of wear).
The tools are finelly made of gilded silver (Vermeil). They are beautiful and of great size and all are skillfully engraved. The thimble was used and has some scratches on, but no hole or dent. The silversmith's hallmark is CG. Scissors have no rust and cut very well (iron blades). Each tool bearsone or two boar head silver hallmark.
The case makes 12.3 cm long.
Scissors: 9 cm long
Thimble: 3.2 gr
