Japanese Culture BookFuroshiki Gift Wrapping for Fun and Function (04)

Furoshiki is the Japanese art of wrapping omiage (thoughful gifts). The word furoshiki actually refers to the beautiful textured wrapping cloth used for this purpose (usually, a type of utilitarian Chirimen crepe fabric).

In Japan, when ever you visit someone\'s home, it is customary to bring an omiage, and these are frequently wrapped in Furoshiki.

Furoshiki wrapping can handle most any shaped item as you can see from the images below. Even round objects like melons, and multiple bottles of wine can be wrapped. Also, the book shows you how to make wear-able wraps for carrying omiage too.
