At left side of mount, on front: "PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY" and on right: "THE WAR FOR THE UNION." TAX STAMP. There is a cancelled, orange, George Washington, 2 cent U.S. Inter. Rev. Proprietary tax stamp affixed on the back. These tax stamps were used during the Civil War to support the Union cause. SIZE. Approximately 3 3/8 x 6 7/8 inches. CONDITION. Both sides have foxing. Both side have other small spots and specks. Left side has a brown stain at center of top edge. Right side has a dark mark on the roof covering, to the left of the pole. Mount is unevenly trimmed at left and right sides, has soiling on front, soiling and foxing on back, and has wear at 3 corners and at left side of top edge. APPEARANCE. Good to very good tones - left side is richer than right. Nice composition. Foxing is apparent.
