General Joshua L Chamberlain writes to his daughter Grace who is staying at his sister Sarah's home (Sae)

He tells her that her Aunt Lizzie is there and Portland is not very far away to visit. Joshua was extremely close with his daughter Grace and his sister Sae.

Joshua writes.."Dear Grace, Aunt Lizzie came tonight and we both say you must come here for a few days anyway, wherever you are. We consider Portland near enough. Do be sure not to dissappoint us. Anytime will do. We can reply that you may know we are at home.. (in different direction on same side Joshua writes "Be sure to bring Horace" (Horace is her husband).
