A fine Georgian solid silver gilt Vinaigrette. The vinaigrette is rectangular form, with a raised border, and raised decoration on the front. There is a vacant cartouche in the middle. It is also gilded all over. The lid opens to reveal a gilded pierced grille, with swirl decoration. There are hallmarks on the top of the inside of the lid and on the inside of the bottom, both quite worn. The whole of the inside is gilded. It contains the original sponge. A very unusual design.

Hallmarks: The vinaigrette is English sterling silver hallmarked probably for Birmingham 1817. The hallmarks are quite rubbed. No hallmarks on the grille.

Dimensions: It is 3.3cm long, 2.3cm wide, and 0.8cm high. It weighs 16.5g

Condition: The hinge is a little loose, and as mentioned the hallmarks are quite rubbed. Please see photos.
