Beautifully aged George iv dominoe box, please read above descriptive.This is a fine example of the common mans tavern game. There are a full set of 28 horn and bone pieces pinned in by a brass rod , they vary in condition , but all seem pretty intact all things considered.
The box seems to be of pine or similar wood, it looks to be hand made with basic corner joints and rough cut wood, however after time , beer and who knows what else it\'s accumulated over time, now the wood has developed a dark rich patina. On each side are faded vertical stripes which look very crude, there are scribbles and numbers also on the inside of the lid, it looks like it has been used as a scoreboard at some point , also there looks to be a name written in the bottom , I see it as sarah, so it may have belonged to a variety of differing owners over its life.
On the main facia of the box is a token depicting George iv from about 1826 or there abouts as this type of bust appears on coins from that period.
The lid has worn over time, also I have had the box at room temp for sometime which has relaxed the wood ,it still slides well . on the lid it goes all mysterious, there is a decorative piece of wood mounted on the lid and mounted on top of this is a wooden double 5 piece again pinned by brass rod.
Its life and history make this piece unique .........
