Georgian Flintlock Strike A Light Tinderbox Pistol Lighter Brass Gun Antique:
GEORGIAN FLINTLOCK STRIKE A LIGHT TINDER BOX PISTOL LIGHTER BRASS GUN ANTIQUE Description
English Georgian pocket strike-a-light flintlock tinder pistol, circa 1780
This is a portable pocket version of the standard table top model with lyre shaped stands at the front.
Modeled on a pocket pistol of the period with walnut stock, one piece brass body, enclosed steel lock, the barrel with spring loaded steel cover to hold sulphur matches.
The mechanism, springs and catches are all present and working.
All in excellent condition with no alterations, damage or repair.
Not recently cleaned or polished, retaining good old patinated surfaces throughout.
Length 6,3/4" or 170mm, weight 268 grams.
A rare pocket model with the barrel tube still present, most pocket strike-a-light were made with no barrel in an effort to reduce their size. This model is not found in in the John Caspall book 'Making Fire and Light in the Home pre 1820', but its transitional development is easy to imagine.
Guaranteed old and original.
