Georgian Sterling Silver Temple Reading Glasses Spectacles Frames John Shaw 1793:
This is for a lovely early pair of sterling silver Georgian reading glasses, known as temple glasses due to the large circular tips that grip the temples. The silver is hallmarked in several places dating them to London 1793 along with the makers initials ISfor John Shaw. They are in excellent condition almost perfect with no damage to the silver and very crisp and clear lenses which are magnified for reading. They come in an opticians case that is advertising 'W.Gregory & Co Ltd, 51 Strand, London' and the case is embossed with a Royal crown. The case is quite worn and the glasses measure 115mm (4.5") across and each lens is 31mm (1.25") by 24mm. I am often selling optical bits so please take a look along with all the other glasses & spectacles, antique scientific and optical instruments, smoking and writing implements, art deco and art nouveau items and all the other vintage ladies and gentlemans accessories we are selling on this week. We will always combine items together to reduce postage costs.
