GEORGIAN Solid Silver MILK CREAM JUG 1791 Hallmarked Sterling SUPERB DESIGN NR
VERY RARE - London - SUPERB GEORGIAN JUG - 2 1/2 troy
This is a really outstanding GEORGIAN solid sterling silver milk or cream jug which was made in London, England in 1791 by the illustrious Georgian silversmith, Stephen Adams I at his St Ann's Lane workshops. This wonderfully stylish and fine quality jug is in superb condition. This wonderful jug is in an oval design with beaded borders, a high pedestal base, beautifully embossed sides and has a gorgeous loop handle. The jug measures 2 1/4" wide, 4 1/4" from spout to handle and stands4 1/2" tall. It weighs75.7 grams-almost2 1/2troy oz. It is engraved with a worn inscription in the cartouche to the front.
The jug is in very good condition with less than the usual light surface scratching and NO splits and no erasures and small old professional repairs where the handle meets the bowl, to the rim and base -less than the usual collection of minor dings and dents - SUPERB. It is hallmarkedwith SA, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark), crowned leopard head, q, George III duty mark showing that it was hallmarked in London in 1791. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. A really lovely and very rare Georgian jug in superb condition after over 220 years as you can see from the photographs - at a VERY low start and .
