GEORGIAN Solid Silver MILK CREAM JUG 1799 Hallmarked Sterling LONDON NR
VERY RARE - London - SUPER GEORGIAN JUG - 3 troy oz.
This is a really outstanding GEORGIAN solid sterling silver milk or cream jug that was made in London, England in 1799, by the famous Georgian silversmith, John Merry at his Addel Street workshops. This wonderfully stylish and fine quality jug is in super condition. This wonderful jug is in an oval design with a reeded rim, plain sides and has a gorgeous reeded loop handle. The jug measures 2 5/8" wide, 4 1/4" from spout to handle and stands4 1/8" tall. It weighs84.9 grams-virtually 2 3/4troy oz. It is engraved with the initialsWW to the front.
The jug is in pretty good condition with less than the usual light surface scratching and NO splits and no erasures or repairs -and the usual collection of minor dings and dents - SUPER. It is hallmarkedwith I.M, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark), crowned leopard head, D, George III duty mark showing that it was hallmarked in London in 1799. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. A really lovely and very rare Georgian jug in super condition after almost 215 years as you can see from the photographs - at a VERY low start and .
