Gibson-made Kalamazoo Guitar Kg-11 Vintage Acoustic Pre-war Flat-top Kg-14 Nr For Sale
1935 KALAMAZOO KG-11 guitar . . . . . This cool vintage flat-top guitar dates all the way back to 1935. Manufactured by Gibson in Kalamazoo, it is similar in many ways to the Gibson 'L' series including the classic sunburst finish and firestripe pickguard, but with ladder bracing and no metal truss rod. Gibson's pre-war acoustics are legendary for their light weight and loud projection, and this one in no exception. Built from exceptional tone woods, with red spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and Brazilian rosewood fretboard (check out that beautiful grain!) and bridge. FON (factory order number) on neck block seems to be "365 A". Nice chunky V-shaped neck, a great blues/fingerpicking/slide guitar. Plays chords very comfortably down by the nut, action is on the high side up at the 12th fret but still playable. The saddle is pretty low and doesn't have much room to go down so if you like very low action a neck reset would be in order. I currently have the guitar tuned to open D for slide, the tone for slide is amazing!
The guitar is mostly original, but the tuners have been changed, the bridge pins were replaced, and the back of the guitar seems to have been refinished or replaced at some point. The top of the guitar is a little warped near the sound hole, but has been stable for many years. Tone is phenomenal, I can understand why this model is revered by so many Blues players, it is louder than any KG-14 or LG I have played! Moderate general wear with scratches and dings to the top. Ships in a non-original soft case.
