GILBOW Tin Wind Up #5 Miller Indy 500 Race Car 20" Near Mint With Driver & Box
PLEASE READCOMPLETE DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY AND VIEW PHOTOS CLOSELY BEFORE offerDING:
Up for sale is an immense 1/8 scale 20" long tinplate metal 1920's Miller front wheel drive race car made by Gilbow Holdings of the UK in the early 1990's. Theseoutstanding models were only offered for a short time. Today they are very desirable and hard to find. The stunning yellow #5 example shown here is clean as new and in near mint condition with all parts intact including removable driver, wind up key and factory box with insert. There is a strong clockwork motor as well. This #5 car was driven in the 1927 Indianapolis 500 race by Pete de Paolo and in 1928 by Wilbur Shaw. The car has a mirror smooth finish, void of any dents, dings or scratches. Only a couple small chips or wear spots on the leather seat are all that keep the model from being mint. This is avery accurately detailed, hand-built, fully finished metal model. It is very heavy and most impressive. The body is formed and soldered tin-plate metal. Individually laced spoke wire wheels with knock off spinners are simply amazing. Soft fully treaded tires are all flawless. The details are simply stunning on this car with fully louvered hood, operational steering with realistic turning ratio, working spring suspension with athentic semi elips up front, full gauge compliment set inengine turned dash, real leather hood tie down straps, beautiful eight into one exhaust system, brake lever that acts as an engine brake and a removable, posable driver figure clothed in actual fabric race suit with separate goggles and leather belt. The detail on front wheel drive system is nothing less than amazing. Beautiful formed grill is a work of art. There is no engine detail because of the large metal clockwork motorunder the hood that correctly drives the front wheels. Motor winds fully up and runs long, strong and smooth. This item was not available as a kit, but because of stainless screw and nut construction, the car could be easily disassembled to modify if desired. It is very suitable for gas powered tether car conversion. Original factory box is still crisp and clean. Protective styro insert, tissue covering and bag for driver are all included. The cars are no longer available from the original factory source. The original casting molds were all destroyed some years ago in a fire at the factory. Hence this car is very rare and hard to find in such mint condition. I cannot say enough about this incredible model.New owner will certainly not be disappointed. These cars sell elsewhere between $1500 and $4000 so here is an outstanding opportunity to own this wonderful investment piece with alow, low starting offer and .......as always.
