Gold Castle Chikusa Dragon Tea Pot Made In Japan- Hand Painted Porcelain:
Up for your consideration is this very rare porcelain dragon teapot. It was manufactured by Gold Castle & is very old. There is a bird on one side of the pot and a floral design on the other. The spout is a dragon's head, as is the knob on the lid, and the handle is a dragon's tail. The handle, knob and spout are gold and orange and the flowers are pink and green, the bird is burnt orange and blue and there is a sky blue trim around the top & bottom of the pot. This teapot measures 10" x 7.5" x 3.5". The hallmark on the bottom reads: Gold Castle Handpainted Chikusa Made In Japan, with a pagoda symbol in the middle. The Goldcastle pagoda mark has been used by the Tashiro Shoten (Tashiro Company) from around 1921-1944, then restarted in the era of Occupied Japan. Tashira Shoten has been a major manufacturer andexporter of porcelain since the Meiji and Showa eras. Chikusa is a district of Nagoya City where Goldcastle products were made and shipped. Condition: Very good considering that this piece could be anywhere from 90-60 years old. The hand painted colors are still vibrant. The gold on the dragon heads & tail is quite shiny. However there are some issues that I feel I should point out. There is a small spot that feels as if the mold was not clean when it was cast, and it left a slight raised deposit that did not paint well, but it is not a chip. You will notice this in the close up picture that I took of the largest pink flower. There are also areas where the gold has rubbed off from wear. You will see this in the last two pictures of the dragon head lid handle. Same this with the tail that is the handle of the teapot. Also see the pictures for signs of wear on the bottom of the teapot, and the inside rim where the lid rests. Other than that, there are no cracks, crazing, or chips. Even with the flaws I pointed out, this is an excellent display piece.Because all my items are vintage and sold "as is" I point out every flaw. I also try to capture every detail good or bad in my pictures. So please examine closely before offerding, as I do not accept returns.
