Gorham Mixed Metal Tray 1885 Japan Inspired Aesthetic Movement Hammered Copper For Sale

A LATE 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN MIXED METAL RED-PATINATED COPPER DRESSING TABLE TRAY WITH APPLIED SILVER DECORATION, MARK OF GORHAM & CO., DATED TO 1885Decorated with a central large sterling silver crane on an island of reeds and silver textured ground with butterfly & three cranes in flight. The background is hammered to simulate clouds, the base stamped with anchor in shield & "GORHAM CO, B73, boar's head stamp (dates it to exactly 1885). It is 9-3/4 long x 7-1/2" wide (24.76cm by 19.05cm). Patina is in wonderful condition, with minor wear and small spots of surface grime as shown in photos. The Gorham Manufacturing Co. based in Providence, Rhode Island, introduced their line of copper wares in 1881 during the Aesthetic Movement Period (also known as Japonesque, Japonaise, Japonism, Japonisme or Japanese Style Period). They had a polished red colored finish and were made with the same care as their finest silverware. The silver cranes are incredibly detailed, and the details can be seen in the closeup photos. This antique tray is in incredible shape for being almost 130 years old. It would make a great additional to any collection.This is the exact tray you will receive.
