Isaac Shelby - Document Signed 03/27/1815

ISAAC SHELBY. Partly Printed DS: "Isaac Shelby" as Governor of Kentucky, 1p, 13½x16. Frankfort, Kentucky, 1815 March 27. Grant of 140 acres of land in Knox County to Achilles Sneed, assignee of John Craig, who was assignee of Mary Walker. Co-signed: "M.D. Hardin" as Secretary. During the Revolutionary War, on October 7, 1780, Isaac Shelby helped lead buckskin-clad American sharpshooters to victory, driving the British from Kings Mountain and paving the way for the defeat of the British troops under Lord Cornwallis. He served as Governor of Kentucky from 1792-1796 and 1812-1816. During the War of 1812, Governor Shelby organized and led an army of Kentuckians that defeated the British at Thames, Canada in 1813. Lightly creased. Folds, vertical folds through the first "a" in Isaac and the "i" in Hardin. Chipped at edges. Pinhead-size holes at vertical fold at blank area and at cross fold, tackhead-size hole at fold touches 1 word of text. Transference from seal at upper left portion touches text (all legible), light show through of docket on verso at upper margin. Overall, fragile condition.
