Gpo Black 162 Bakelite Telephone S32 On Bellset 25:
GPO BLACK 162 BAKELITE TELEPHONE S32 on BELLSET 25
This telephone is converted and ready for use. It is a stunning early example, in superb condition.
The handset is marked "G.P.O. S-32 No. 164" and the base has "G.P.O S-32 / 234 No. 162". The bellset is marked "25 FHR/1" so it is a GPO-refurbished example dating from c1935. The telephone is an early example, with the first of its kind appearing in 1929. This one dates from 1932.
The telephone has a chrome alpha-numeric no. 12 dial, and an original plaited handset cord which is in mint condition. The brown bellset cord is also an original. The line cord is a plastic BT-type, black to match the telephone.
The telephone gives a nice loud ring from its genuine GPO no. 25 twin-gong bellset. It is fitted with an original receiver and microphone.
The dial is fitted with a reproduction label. If preferred, I can produce a personalised dial label for you, with your exchange and number. I have a GPO no. 5 number stamp which I can use for this.
Being the earlier No. 162 model, there is no drawer on this telephone. These came along about five years later with the advent of the GPO 232 and 332 telephones.
This telephone has some superficial surface marks from its 81 years of use. The cradle has a tiny fleabite to the top right corner of the rear right fork (viewed from the front, photo 5).
Overall a stunning telephone which is ready for many more years of use.
