We are quite pleased to offer this important c1830 Garrett & Son coin silver tea service. One of the most rarely seen early 19th century Philadelphia makers. Philip and his son Thomas Cresson Garrett listed only seven years. From 1828 to 1835. At which time became T.C. Garrett & Co till 1860. Samuel offerdle was one of several important apprentices to Garrett. Classic tapering urn form. Centre brilliant repoussed leaf and flroal sprays. The unusually large flowers carved in exceptionally high relief from surface. Interwoven vine and leaf framed centre mnedallion. Beautiful script JAM on side only. Above, most unique irregular frosted panels, cascading to centre. Handsome Greek key decorative band. Beaded trim throughout the set. The inset shoulder with leaf and vine along with repeating scale surface. Perfectly fit domed covers, topped with classic urn finial. The finials actually miniaturiaztion of the pieces they finish. Conforming frosty panel and florals. Well cast satin chased acanthus cap tapering S-scroll handle. Original heat stops. This Garrett & Son teapot is 11 1/2 inches tall and it is 10 handle to spout and 34 standard ounces. Sugar vase 9 1/2 inches tall 23 standard ounces. Waste bowl & creamer together 31 1/2 standard ounces. Exceptionally thick, heavy guage silver weighs 88 (standard) ounces. Hallmarked as shown, the marks effaced. Appears to be Garrett & Son, Phila., Pure Coin, and a K framed in stars. In excellent condition. Interior of teapot and coffee clean as if never used. Rich, lustreous silver patina throughout. Raised floral decoration retains its original detail. Covers close flush. Handles secure, and teapot with original heat stops. For the discerning collector of the finest early Philadelphia silver.
