Genuine GEORGE NAKASHIMA COFFEE TABLE:

This is a genuine Nakashima coffee table. It measures approximately 56\" X 26\" X 17 1/2\". I believe it was made in \'77, which is what it looks like on the bottom of the table.I acquired it ten years ago from the original owner - a coworker of mine. She and her husband commissioned several pieces back in the \'70s. Years later, she and her husband divorced and the coffee table moved to his bachelor pad where it was very much used. There it acquired a few coffee cup rings, a cigarette burn or two, and some scratches. After his death it was passed back to her and she just stored it in a spare room in our shop\'s building.
I acquired the piece thinking I would have it refinished one day and then use it. But it\'s been ten years now and I still haven\'t done anything with it. It\'s time for it to find another home where it will be appreciated and displayed.
I did contact the Nakashima Foundry in New Hope, PA recently about taking it back there to have it refinished. I emailed pictures. They said it would take six weeks and cost $1000. My intent was to drive it up to New Hope but I\'m just too busy now and it would just be another one of those plans I never got to.
I also inquired about having the table authenticated and obtaining a copy of the original purchase order and sale\'s sheet. I will supply this to the next owner when it arrives.
The original owner\'s name is written on the bottom \"Whilliams\" although mispelled - there shouldn\'t be the \"h\".
In the pictures I have tried to show all defects including coffee cup rings, scratches and the crack that has developed on the end without the butterfly.
This is a beautiful table as is, with the interesting fissures and \"thorny\" edges. Nakashima himself would say the patina from use just added more character, but you and I both know a refinishing would do it justice.
I would prefer local pick up. If I must ship it I would have to consult with a furniture shipping professional in my area to ensure it\'s safe travel. The cost of shipping will be the buyer\'s responsibility.
