George Washington Federal Period Reverse Painted Glass Mirror Circa 1810:
Superb Federal Period giltwood mirror with a colorful reverse painting on glass panel of General George Washington surrounding by patriotic symbols of the Revolutionary War and the period rendition of the American Eagle. The circa 1810 mirror measures 25 X 44 and is a fabulous example of this style mirror from the Federal Period that hung in the finest estates during the turn of the eighteenth century. Such mirrors picturing the heroes of the day are more desirable than those more commonly depicting landscapes or fictional scenes. This is the first that we have encountered paying homage the “Father of Our Country.”
