George Washington (1732 - 1799 ) President (1789-1797) George Washington the first President of the United States of America. George Washington was selected for this office because he symbolized qualities of discipline, aristocratic duty, military orthodoxy and persistence in adversity.
The original cast for this was taken in 1785 by Jean Antiine Houdon . Washington was 53. Houdin stated he \"had no idea of the majesty and grandure of Washingtons form and features untill he studied him as a subject.\" . When Washington returned to Mount Vernon after the war, He was one of the most famous men in the world. Being before photography many artists clamoured to capture his image. This consumed much of his time. Washingtons coments were, \"I am so hackneyed to the touches of painter\'s pencils that I am now altogether at their beck and sit like patience on a monument , whilst they are deliniating the lines of my face.\"

To save time in sitting Washington agreed to having this mask made. It has been good fortunes of generations to have this important artifact as part of our national heritage.
This work started with this actual life cast mask.
Then it has been sculpturaly
enhanced by me Erick Erickson.
The Hair ears and eye brows
have been added to create a very
lifelike display.
I set the head at an upward cocked angle. We are acustomed to seeing Washington this way. Just about every formal portrate of him is in this posture. Washington is on the Dollar Bill is this pose as well. Washingtons eyes are sculpted with the vision of Independence. His wig is perfect , you can even see the bow in his pony tail over his sholder.
