This is a very pretty, ornate, Georgian sentimental hair veil pin dating to c1820s.Lace or veil pins are so called because they were frequently used to confine a length of lace at the neckline or at the throat, or sometimes to attach drapery at the shoulder.The veil or lace pin features an 18ct yellow gold mount (tested as unmarked), with a ribbed collet set border of pretty split pearls. The veil pin front has a central crystal glazed hair compartment, which has a plaque of plaited fair hair inside. Probably given by a gentleman to his sweetheart, to remind her of him whilst he was away at war.

On the back is a traditional c-clasp tube hinge pin fitting, in good working order, with a beautifully shaped pin in true Georgian style. The veil pin is in very good vintage condition, with the mount, crystal glass cover and pearls intact having a beautiful aged lustre. Considering it is around 190yrs old the pin has survived really well.A wonderful piece for the Georgian sentimental veil pin jewellery collector, that should not be missed.
