A massive well illustrated folio German Bible, based on the Martin Luther (1483-1546) version. Very archaic looking pig leather binding over thick and heavy boards, intact and well kept with great stamped binding with initials and date 1769 on front board; detail still very visible to intricately stamped leather with hinges and boards intact. Large raised bands to spine, all pages are attached minus front EP, detached but with great personalized fraktur bookplate consisting of a hand drawn shield for the Roswag/ Gaier family ( we believe). Lacking main title, but all other pages present; light browning and staining throughout with some lighter edgewear and a few chunks missing and light tears on a few leaves. Engraved full page plates as well as numerous in text woodcuts throughout. Includes Augsburg Confession at rear, last leaf of Register missing a portion. A head turning antique 18th C Design, with great character and with fraktur bookplate, measuring 15\" tall, 9.5\" wide, and 3.25\" thick-, this is unique and a true piece to remember.
