This Coin is from Germany - The German Empire (1871-1919) - KM#17 -Silver Half Mark - 1 coin dated 1906ARuler: Wilhelm II
This coin was minted in silver throughout World War 1 until the Weimar Constitution was ratified in 1919. The value of the silver was much more valuable than 1/2 mark denomination on the coin. These coins were hoarded primarily when things started looking bad for the German Military during the war and inflation was well into the double digits. Some mints put a dark finish on the coins in 1918 and 1919 to try to prevent hoarding. It did not work.
