German Mendelssohn Hellerau Germany Arts & Crafts Brass Bowl For Sale
Description:This fabulous piece of German Arts & Crafts metal workis approx. 6” diameter x 2” high. The bowl is made of brass with a bulbous body and a rounded ribbon edged lip. It is marked “Mendelssohn, 1921, 229,--e” on the bottom. There are typical spots and patina wear consistent with age, but generally it is in good condition.
Notes: Georg von Mendelssohn was a goldsmith and craftsman. He had a studio-home in the artists’ colony of Hellerau, outside of Dresden, Germany. Active in the early 1900’s, Mendelssohn was a mover & shaker of the “Deutscher Werkbund” whose goal was to produce good and simple works of art.
