Old Antique Vintage German RegimentalJäger Beer Stein 11th Electoral Hessian Jäger - Marburg
Description At 11 inches tall, offered for your collecting pleasure this rare Jäger regimental stein. This stein is to 11th Electoral Hessian Jäger regiment garrisoned in Marburg. Marburg is the major city in the state of Hesse and is located on the river Lahn. Jäger steins come up very rarely and are not easy to find. The lid is slightly loose on the handle but not overly so. The finial is of a seated Jäger wearing his plumed Tshako and holding a schnapps flask in his hand. The left scene shows a Jäger in the underbrush with his dog scouting for the enemy. The front scene shows two Jagers flanking the unit epaulet with the stag's head with the cross between it's antlers. The epaulet bears the cypher of Queen Margarita of Italy, the honorary chef of the regiment. As legend has it, St. Hubertus was an avid hunter who ignored church and would hunt on Sunday. As the church bells tolled in the background he was confronted with a large stag. As he knelt to shoot his crossbow the Holy cross appeared between the stag's antlers. Realizing the error of his sinful ways, he repented on the spot and dedicated the remainder of his life to the service of the church. This is the reason for the stag with the cross and St Hubertus being the patron saint of the Jagers. The scene on the right shows a Jäger practicing marksmanship as two officers and a reservist look on. At over 100 years old this stein has unfortunately has some slight lines in the bodyasevidenced in the photos. The lines are not distracting and the unit is rare so consider that when you offer.Translations

Flur, der Jäger kommt doch auf die Spur.Through meadow and forest, through field and pasture, the rifleman always gets on track.Ruhig Blut und scarf gezielt, ein jeder Schuss muss sitzen. With a quiet disposition and a sharp shot, each shot should be successful.Hoch lebe der Kaiser und seine Jäger.Long live the Emperor and his riflemen.
