Giant Month Biedermeier Vienna Regulator Wall Clock - Josef Weber In Wein:
This is very fine Biedermeier Vienna clock of giant size which runs for a month on a single winding. It is beautiful made and has very elegant and restrained proportions. This is one of the finest Vienna wall clocks. It was made circa 1850 by the eminent Austrian master clockmaker Josef Weber in Wein who was working from 1837 to 1862.Austrian clocks such as this are entirely hand made and finished by time served master clockmaker and should not be confused with the much cheaper mass produced German clocks.Austrian clocks were only made for the most discerning customers (who could afford them) and took many months to complete individually.A clock of this size and quality would have cost a fortune new and was obviously made for a very important customer.
Unfortunately there are too many people selling modern reproductions to customers.I offer a full money back guarantee as to the authenticity of my Vienna clocks.
As you can see from the photographs this is a very large clock being just over 6ft 2 inches,18 3/4 inches at its widest point and 7 1/2.The door is 14 3/4 wide inches deep It has a superb Rosewood back board with two lines of boxwood stringing which shows the heavy pendulum to its best advantage.Speaking of the pendulum,it has a very heavy brass backed lead filled bob and an ebonised rod . It is seconds beating. The 10 inch milk glass dial is in perfect condition and is signed by the maker. It is surrounded by a beautifully gilded pie crust bezel . This is the largest milk glass dial and it is quite remarkable that it has survived in perfect condition. The massive seconds beat movement with a five wheel train of 30 day duration with dead beat escapement and maintaining power it is supremely made.It has been professional stripped and serviced. The condition is excellent and there is no wood worm. The original finish is present and the clock has not been re polished. The rosewood veneers used are quite exceptional showing lovely grain and colour .There is much use of boxwood stringing to the inside of the glazed panels. It is of 6 glass design and the glazing bar under the dial continues around the sides .The condition is exceptional .There are some age related marks s as you would expect on any item which is 170 years old and has not been re finished .It is ready to hang straight on the wall. The proportions are perfect and is worthy of gracing the wall of the most discerning collector and I particularly like the carved decoration to the corners , pediment and bottom finial. The style typifies a Biedermeier clock. The sides of the case are glazed and all the glass appears to be original. The original winding crank is present.Hopefully the images will show show interested parties all they need to see but prospective buyers are very welcome to view. This clock is much nicer in the flesh.Should a lesser offer be accepted it will be a trade sale with the clock being sold as described and shipping costs being the responsibility of the buyer.I will ship this clock worldwide but it is massive and very heavy
