Gorgeous Huge Antique Vtg Deans Rag Book Bear Early 1950's " Nelson" With Label:
Nelson ( we simply couldn't resist giving him that name!) is a huge Deans Rag Book bear made in the early 1950s, maybe a little earlier. Aside from his missing arm, he really is in very good condition. He has a great covering of mohair, his felt pads are all original and have worn well, accept one tiny nibble hole on his left foot pad. He has his original plastic eyes with felt backing that have been attached through his head and secured with a knot at the back of his head, in the same way that you would attach glass eyes. He has all of his original claw, nose and mouth stitching and he still has his Deans label on his left foot pad. It is a little frayed but is perfectly legible and secure (see pic 11). When he first came to live with us we immediately named him Nelson. We took him to a dear friend who is extremely talented at making clothing, so that she could make him his jacket, he was a very well behaved bear and sat very nicely for his fitting. It looks so wonderful on him, I especially love the epaulettes! His leg joints are stiff and can't be moved any more into a sitting position than pictured. This and the size of his wonderfully large head mean that he cannot sit up on his own and he needs to be supported. He measures 26 inches long, has a soft stuffed body and a wood wool filled head. Nelson is a wonderful character bear, he has the most gorgeous face. Even with his missing arm he is such a happy ted. There is of course always the option to have a new arm made for him, but I honestly wouldn't change a thing about him.If you have any questions I am always happy to answer them. He will be sent by recorded delivery. I am afraid international postage will be very expensive due to his large size.
