Gorgeous Old Pawn Zuni Sterling Silver & Coral Inlay Cuff Bracelet │rs Be For Sale
Up for sale is a gorgeous old pawn Zuni sterling silver and red coral inlay cuff bracelet,
sometimes referred to as the fish-scale design.
Native Americans from the southwest have used red materials in their jewelry for a long time. Its a beautiful combination of colors and contrast and rooted in symbolic meaning. Coral is not found in any ocean of the Americas. Therefore any "red gold," (often called by some artists) that was used in jewelry would have come to the Americas through trade or "Wampum" (trade beads) after the Spanish Conquistadors arrived in 1521. The bright red Mediterranean coral is rare today.
Old Pawn Native American Jewelry refers to the pieces that were made, worn and treasured as not only adornment, protection of good health, but also as portable wealth. Not having ready access to banks, or cash money, this jewelry would often serve as the family "reserve" or "emergency" fund.
In times of need, this silver and turquoise jewelry could be easily used as security with an authorized trader (pawned) for cash to meet the current crisis. Then, when the crops came in, or the sheep were shorn, the jewelry could be redeemed and take its place back in the family.
Unfortunately on occasions this jewelry would not be redeemed as planned. The lender would keep it for the agreed amount of time, and if the loan was not paid off by the agreed date, the Pawn Shop, or Trader would be authorized to sell the jewelry.
Often, when the elders of the family die, their items are pawned and the money is divided among the family style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; ">Inner circumference from end to end measures 5-5/16" plus an opening of 1" and cuff measures 5/8" wide.
Total weight 39.6g.
The bracelet has been tested and examined for purity and is sterling silver. In addition, there are no test marks or cosmetic damage on the piece.
You will receive the exact bracelet pictured! Thank you for looking and good luck offerding!
