Gorgous 1" Fulani Brass Cuff, Incredible With Earrings. For Sale
HandcraftedFulani cuff:
One of the most striking gold ornaments found in the Sahel (lower Sahara) are the earrings worn by the Fulani women of southern Mali. Gold is formed into a square rod which is marked down the center of each side, from this mark it is repeatedly heated and hammered into its four blades and then twisted into shape. These gold earrings could reach a weight of 300 grams each, a pair this large would be the ultimate sign of wealth. The Fulani name for these earrings is kwotene kange.
This cuffup for saleis solid brass and made using the same technique as the gold earrings. Eachcuff is a unique work of art and may vary slightly from the picture!

The Fulani or Peul are a traditionally nomadic people of traders and cattle herders who live throughout W. Africa. Many have now settled to a life of farming although some still continue to follow their most prized possessions (cattle) seasonally in search of pasture. The Fulani are very proud of their appearance and place great emphasis on their adornments.
Thanks for looking at my sale, everything I have for sale is handpicked by me! I travel to Africa 2-3 times a year and select what I consider to be the best quality items available in the marketplace. This has been my sole occupation for nearly 20 years. I sell to stores, galleries, boutiques, and collectors across the country and also exhibit twice yearly at both the New York and California gift shows. This is something I really enjoy doing, I get to travel for business and it's great selling to people who appreciate the culture and workmanship that is in each piece of jewelry. So have fun shopping or just looking and if you have any questions I will do my best to answer them.
