IMPORTANT GORHAM STERLING SILVER BOAR'S HEAD TEA SET; MADE IN 1901; WEIGHS 65 OUNCES; EXCELLENT
We are pleased to offer this Gorham 1901 sterling silver shell and scroll tea set.
Displaying beautifully engraved family crest. A boar's head with leaf in mouth. Motto translated "better late than never".
The set in wide petal oval form. Elegant raised leaf and scroll overhang rim.
Thick well cast fluted centre cover, topped with classical urn and globe tip finial.
Equally well cast beaded centre, twin shell cap handles. Accented with feathered acanthus framing the original heat stops. Rising from wavy panel leaf terminal.
The set finished with handsome vine framed inverted shell and anthemion scroll feet.
Gorham boar's head teapot is 11 inches handle to spout and 27 1/2 standard ounces.
The sugar bowl is 8 1/2 inches and 16 standard ounces.
The cream jug is 6 3/4 inches and it weighs 12 standard ounces.
Exceptionally thick heavy guage sterling construction the set weighs 55 standard ounces.
Hallmarked as shown.
In excellent condition. Interior clean as if little used. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. Handle secure and with original heat stops. Covers close flush. The shell and scroll work retains most all of its original crisp, vibrant hand chased detail. Few tiny scuffs.
