We are pleased to offer this monumental c1900 Graff, Washbourne & Dunn sterling silver water pitcher.
The pitcher weighs 42 standard ounces.
This small New York firm founded in 1899 when they purchased Wood & Hughes. Known for beautifully crafted silver. Sold to high end retailers nationwide. In this case the pitcher was retailed by the San Francisco firm of Shreve Co.
Classic tapering urn, with unique gently everted corners.
Beautifully hand decorated Neo-classical displays to each panel. A faux wicker Neo-classical basket brimming with flowers, suspended from above. Acanthus and streaming leaf tip border.
The panels with elegant applied acanthus, rising toward the upper rim.
Long sweeping leaf and berry decorated rim.
Thick well cast ruffled acanthus cap double scroll paneled handles. Rising from vine and petal terminal.
Interwoven script monogram MDF (?).
Graff, Washbourne & Dunn sterling silver hand decorated pitcher is 11 3/4 inches tall and 9 1/2 handle to spout.
Exceptionally thick, heavy guage sterling weighs 42 (standard) ounces.
Hallmarked as shown. The maker's mark conjoined three part symbol. The retailer Shreve, San Francisco.
Excellent condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina. The beautiful border work and floral displays retain their original crisp, hand chased detail. Stands firm on table or display shelf.
