Great 1820-40 Clews Dark Blue Staffordshire Oriental Motif Well & Tree Platter For Sale
An outstanding, quite large, original circa 1820-40's, dark blue Staffordshire well and tree platter by Clews in the Oriental motif. The platter measures 18 1/4" by 14 1/4" and is marked with the typical Clews circular impressed mark on the reverse. The blue is particularly deep and vibrant and the platter is free of knife marks, surface wear etc so it displays outstanding. Condition - has an old beginnings of restoration to one of the two rest foots on the underside of the platter (see photos). The platter rests correctly and the shaping is well done just in need of smoothing & finishing work etc by a professional to complete the restoration. The platter also has a odd sliver chip under one edge which is only glaze deep (see photo) and a L shaped hairline at upper right edge all of which could be addressed by a professional restorer. A very beautiful dark blue well and tree platter in the oriental pattern which is both impressive and very hard to find. Item is fresh to the market from an old local collection.TERMS & CONDITIONS:
