GREAT BRITAIN 1911 (COVER) FIRST UK AERIAL POST½d KGV definitive on illustrated commemorative olive postcard with special FIRST UNITED KINGDOM AERIAL POST, LONDON circular cancel (die 5) dated SP 9 1911, the day of the London to Windsor flight. Minor creasing, generally fine. BC27a
Note: specially designed postcards and envelopes (available in various colours including \'privileged\' purple) were prepared and pre-stamped (with either the ½d or 1d KGV definitive) for the first UK aerial flights. Only these postcards and envelopes were authorised for use. A unique handstamp was also designed. Mailboxes were set up in London (postmark dies 1 to 4) and Hendon (dies 5 and 6) for posting. The London-Windsor flight took place 9 September 1911 and the Windsor-London flight 17 September 1911 (although the postcards are dated 16 September)
