For sale is a nice plate made by Royal Vienna in the late 19th century. The center is hand painted with a very detailed signed scene of a lady and gentleman painting with a putto underneath them holding up some flowers. The putto is sitting on a cloud which the ladies leg is going through but is partially hidden by the cloud. The detail is just superb! The rim has some spectacular designs on it with lots of raised gold and white on pink, reddish and light blue ground colors. An amazing amount of work has gone into the rim design alone! Gold trim to the very edge of the plate as well! The scene is named underneath Apelles - one of those old Greek stories you can look up on the net quite easily. The plate is in superb condition with two spots of wear - one by the signature and one just above the painting and one tiny rim flake that was gilded over and does not take away from the piece at all. The plate is 8.125 inches in diameter and 0.875 inches tall. It is marked with the blue shield / beehive mark underneath as well as the black name Apelles.
